What's being built at 43 Bleecker Street?

Eleven condominiums inside a landmarked Classical Revival loft building. Five of the homes are new, created by converting former non-residential space, and the residential portion totals about 30,442 square feet, according to New York YIMBY. The building keeps its 85-foot height, and the newly approved rooftop addition adds livable space on top.

What did Landmarks approve at 43 Bleecker Street?

Landmarks approved an occupied rooftop addition on October 20, 2026. It's the second Landmarks approval for the project. In July 2025, the commission voted 9–0 to approve the first phase:

  • A full restoration of the Bleecker Street façade and its cornices
  • New aluminum-clad wood windows that copy the original double-hung pattern
  • A rebuilt storefront with black aluminum doors and recreated historic iron grilles
  • Stair and elevator bulkheads on the roof
  • New balconies on the rear façade

The rooftop addition got the most debate. In September, Community Board 2's Landmarks Committee asked for a smaller, lower addition, set back farther from the street, and clad in a less reflective material. The commission still approved it. Because the building sits in the NoHo East Historic District, every exterior change must pass this review, protecting the block's 19th-century streetscape for future owners.
